VACCINE HESITANCY ā€“ FROM PARENTAL DISTRUST TO COVID-19 CONSPIRACIES

Worldwide studies continuously confirm that vaccination is a safe and effective method of combating various infectious diseases and a key component of global public health programs. However, the vaccination status of a population is often lower than needed to achieve collective immunity. A key reason that affects lower vaccination coverage is vaccine hesitancy, identified as one of the ten greatest threats to global public health. So far, vaccine hesitancy has been most investigated in the context of parental refusal of chil- dren vaccination. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of its vaccines put vaccine hesitancy further in the focus of investigators as well as healthcare workers and policy makers. We have witnessed its immediate effects on public health and mortality rates as well as even more extreme ways of vaccine refusal than previously documented. The aim of this review article is to summarize relevant scientific understandings of vaccine hesitancy, including its psychological determinants, insights from parental refusal of child vaccination, medical distrust, and conspiracy theories related to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as recommendations for public health services for combating vaccine hesitancy

As one of the sexual behaviors of young people, sexting is increasingly being scientifically researched. Contemporary analyses clearly reveal young people are habitually using the Internet and social networks in the context of sexuality. These analyses are usually presented within a psychological aspect, and almost never with the context of criminal law. The aim of this paper is first to review the characteristics of sexting, focusing on its definitions, frequency, features, and determinants. We tackle a developmental perspective and potential negative consequences exploring the phenomena within the context of criminal law. Considering that the possibilities of criminal law development leading to sexting sanctioning have not yet been problematized, the second part of the paper pioneers the relationship between sexting and existing incriminations within the Croatian criminal law system, to answer the question of the sanctioning needs and possibilities. The insights provide the first criminal law perspective on sexting sanctioning in Croatia

    The psychosocial burden of urticaria

Urticaria is one of the most common dermatologic allergic diseases, but also holds a significant psycho- social burden due to possible long duration, frequent relapses, unknown cause or trigger and resistance to applied therapy. Many patients associate the onset and worsening of the disease with stressful experi- ences indicating it can be a psychosomatic disease within the psychoneuroimmunological approach. Apart from that, urticaria greatly affects the quality of life (QoL) of patients, disrupts their daily lives in all aspects, and is a dermatological disease with one of the highest prevalence of psychiatric comor- bidities. Therefore, in this review article we discuss why a multidisciplinary approach, which includes both biological, psychological and social aspects of the disease, must be acknowledged for effective treatment. Finally, we provide suggestions for clinical management of patients suffering from urticaria

Considering the constant growth of maritime transport and the role of the European Union in the international seaborne trade, it is important to determine the readiness of the EU in case of marine pollution. This paper summarizes the data regarding the number of the vessels ready for the response, and immediate and long-term storage facilities for the oily waste collected after an operation on the European Union territory. The aim of the study is to show the current available operational capacities in each Member State, as well as to determine the strength and capacity of five European regions for a prompt and efficient response to an oil spill. This paper seeks to highlight the importance of practical details that should be accessible and well prepared when an oil spill occurs. Based on the analysis of secondary data, it was found out that the Mediterranean area has the largest number of vessels ready for response in case of oil pollution, while the largest storage capacity for oily waste on shore is in the Baltic region. Particular reference is given to the Republic of Croatia which currently has nine available response vessels with the total storage capacity on board of 49.7 m

Uključene su sve primarne kvantitativne i kvalitativne studije pronađene pregledom četiri elektronske bibliografske znanstvene baze ā€“ MEDLINE, PsychInfo, CINAHL i SCOPUS u srpnju 2020. Apart from being a severe skin disease, psoriasis is often accompanied by significant psychological disorders, which is why various psychological interventions are often recommended to patients. Among those, meditation and mindfulness are increasingly popular. However, it seems that a systematic study of these interventions in patients with psoriasis has not been conducted so far, which motivated this study. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the effectiveness of meditation and mindfulness in psoriasis patients, regarding symptoms and accompanying psychological disorders, and to analyze the methodology and quality of these studies. All primary quantitative and qualitative studies found by searching four scientific databases - MEDLINE, PsychInfo, CINAHL and SCOPUS, in July 2020 were included. Ten studies of different designs were reviewed and their results and methodology narratively synthetized. The obtained results suggest that these interventions have beneficial effects for psoriasis patients. The effectiveness of meditation and mindfulness for alleviating psychological disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and other psychopathological disorders, as well as general adaptation and reactions to illness and symptoms, was more frequently researched and more clearly identified. In addition, a limited number of reviewed studies also found these interventions help alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis and improve dermatological quality of life, which has important implications for treatment. However, the reviewed studies were very different in terms of quality and methodology, and significant limitations have been identified which clearly indicate the need for future research. These results have been interpreted in the context of psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology, including giving recommendations for future research and practical guidelines for the use of these interventions in clinical practice
